The Rum Diary

Uninterested in the noise and insanity of New York and the crushing conventions of late Eisenhower-era America, itinerant journalist Paul Kemp travels to the pristine island of Puerto Rico to write down for an area San Juan newspaper run by the downtrodden editor Lotterman. Adopting the rum-soaked life-style of the late ‘50s model of Hemingway’s ‘The Misplaced Era’, Paul quickly turns into entangled with a really engaging American girl and her fiancée, a businessman concerned in shady property improvement offers.  It’s inside this world that Kemp finally discovers his true voice as a author and integrity as a person.
