Through the campaign for reelection, the crooked politician Paul Madvig decides to clean up his past, denying that the aid of this gangster Nick Varna and linking into the commendable reformist politician Ralph Henry. After Ralph’s son, Taylor Henry, a politician and the fan of Paul’s sister’s Opal, has been killed, Paul’s right arm, Ed Beaumont, finds his own body on the road. Nick employs the fiscal predicament of The Observer to induce the writer Clyde Matthews to utilize the paper to boost the feeling which Paul Madvig could have murdered Taylor.
