Gangsters abound in this vibrant, romantic crime drama that’s put in Shanghai through WW II. The narrative of Taiwanese patriot Hsu Wen-Chiang starts because he’s washed up onto a shore near Shanghai. He’s taken in by Ting Lik, a beggar who’s desperately in love with Feng Ching-Ching, the daughter of a prominent gangster. It is not long until Ting Lik successfully climbs throughout the underworld ranks to become one of the city’s most powerful gangsters. Hsu is together with him all of the way and utilizes his own ability to get revenge against people who attempted to have him murdered much sooner. The movie’s later attention is about the exploits of Feng who long ago experienced a connection with Hsu if he had been on the lam in northern China. Back in the current, Hsu and Feng meet by chance and they resume their affair till Hsu finds that Feng’s dad is just one of the opponents and also kills him. Poor Feng goes insane with despair. Ting finds out also promises revenge upon Hsu.
