Only Yesterday

It’s 1982, also Taeko is 27 years older, unmarried, and has lived her entire life in Tokyo. She decides to go to her family from the countryside, and also as the train travels throughout the night, memories flooding back with her : the very first Cuban stirrings of love, the beginning of puberty, as well as the temptations of mathematics and boys. In the station she’s fulfilled by young man Toshio, and the experiences with him start into reconnect her to abandoned longings. In lyrical switches between the current and the past, Taeko contemplates the arc of her lifetime, and wonders when she’s been loyal to the dreams of her youth self.
