Napoleon
A huge 5 1/2 hour biopic of all Napoleon, tracing his career from his schooldays (in which a snowball battle is staged as a military effort ), his flight from Corsicaduring the French Revolution (in which a true storm is intercut with a political storm) and the Terror, culminating into his victorious invasion of Italy at 1797 (the film ceases there since it had been meant to be a part of six, however manager Abel Gance never raised the sum to create the additional five).
