Monte Walsh
Monte Walsh and Chet Rollins are long time cowhands, working whatever ranch job comes in their way, but “nothing that they can not do out of the horse.” Their lifetimes are broken up between weeks on the scope and the occasional trip in to town. Monte comes with a long term relationship using prostitute Martine Bernard, while Chet has slipped under the charm of their widow that owns the hardware shop. Camaraderie and rivalry with all one other cowboys fulfill these days, until each of their hands, Shorty Austin, loses his job also becoming associated with rustling and murdering. Afterward Monte and Chet realize their own lives over the scope will be inexorably re directed.
