La Strada
When Gelsomina, a naïve younger girl, is bought from her impoverished mom by brutish circus strongman Zampanò to be his spouse and companion, she loyally endures her husband’s coldness and abuse as they journey the Italian countryside performing collectively. Quickly Zampanò should take care of his jealousy and conflicted emotions about Gelsomina when she finds a kindred spirit in Il Matto, the carefree circus idiot, and contemplates leaving Zampanò.
