The legend of Hamish MacInnes started early. At 16 he climbed the Matterhorn. At 17 he constructed his first motor automobile – from scratch. He tried Everest in 1953 along with his pal Johnny Cunningham, and nearly stole the height earlier than Hillary and Tenzing. As an explorer, expedition chief and engineer he achieved world fame. As inventor of the all steel ice axe, creator of the Worldwide Mountain Rescue Handbook and founding father of Glencoe Mountain Rescue he has been answerable for saving a whole bunch of lives, if not hundreds. However on the age of 84, his accomplishments couldn’t save him from being institutionalised in opposition to his will, affected by delirium. After a spell in psychogeriatric detainment in a hospital within the Highlands of Scotland, throughout which he made many escape makes an attempt – he emerged to search out his reminiscence gone.
