Eva Doesn’t Sleep

In 1952, Argentina’s beloved First Lady, Eva Perón, died of cancer at age thirtythree. A renowned embalmer was commissioned with the grieving Juan Perón to conserve her own body for display, and Argentines appeared to function as close “Evita”. Three decades after, when his administration had been overthrown by a military coup, Perón fled the country until he would make arrangements for the transfer of his spouse’s own body. The military junta presently in command resisted the corpse; therefore fearful were they of Eva’s emblematic power they actually made it illegal to even complete her name.
