Birdman of Alcatraz

After murdering a prison guard, convict Robert Stroud faces life imprisonment in solitary confinement. Driven almost mad by despair and isolation, Stroud’s life benefits new significance after he happens upon a helpless infant sparrow from the practice yard and nurses it back to wellness. Despite using just a third grade education, Stroud proceeds to develop into a famous ornithologist and accomplishes a larger awareness of liberty and reason for bars than many men and women discover in the world.
