This animated documentary outlines that the unconventional upbringing of this film maker Jung Henin, certainly one of 1000s of Korean children adopted by Western families following the conclusion of the Korean War. It’s the narrative of a boy stranded between 2 civilizations. Animated vignettes – some funny and a few poetic – trail Jung from the day he meet his fresh blonde sisters, throughout elementary school, and in his teenaged years, when his emerging sense of individuality begins to produce fissures in your home and spark the latent biases of his adoptive parents. The film maker tells his story with their or her own cartoon intercut with snippets of all Super8 family footage along with archival film. The end result is the animated memoir like no other: cleareyed and unflinching, funny, and most importantly, inspiring at the power of their individual heart.
