A Dog Of Flanders
Poor but happy, young Nello and his grandfather live alone, delivering milk as a livelihood, in the outskirts of Antwerp, a town in Flanders (the Flemish or Dutch-speaking portion of modern-day Belgium). They find that a defeated dog (a Bouvier, a big hardy dog indigenous to Flanders) and embrace it and nurse it back into health, differentiating it Patrasche, also the centre name of Nello’s mom Mary, who perished when Nello was really young. Nello’s mom was a talented performer, and just like his mom, he succeeds in drawing against him, along with his buddy Aloise is his version and best lover and supporter.
